About Jason
I’m a former Canadian tour guide who fell in love with Cambodia and never really left.
I arrived in Kampot in 2019. When COVID hit I got stuck, which turned out to be one of the better things that happened to me.
During the lockdown I was invited to live in rural villages and really immerse myself in local life. I read everything I could find: the kingdoms, the French colonial period, the war years, the recovery.
Everyone knows Cambodia for Angkor Wat and the Khmer Rouge. What I kept finding is how much more there is underneath that. The culture, the people, the history that never makes the headlines. That’s what I wanted to share.
Working as a local guide I kept getting the same questions: where to eat, what’s worth doing, what’s the story behind this place. There wasn’t a good answer online, so I built one.
Discover Kampot is my way of sharing what I know: part blog, part FAQ, part practical guide, written by someone who lives and works here.
